St. Patrick’s day was a bit of a blur

A couple of posts ago, I pushed Town Branch Distillery a couple of days ahead of its real place in time, which was after St. Patrick’s day.

I spent that in Lexington, KY, after surviving the Bourbon trail.

And boy was it fun. A lot of drinking, partying, new friends, Irish car bombs and green t-shirts – s much so that the next day was spent in bed. Recovering. Which took most of the day and half of the next night.

Lexington is known for its craft beer scene, and quite rightly. Not in any particular order of visitation, I got to see and drink at the following:

  • West Sixth Street – some of the best beers I’ve had on this trip. Brilliant friendly service for such a big place, and the place that let me buy a Green t-shirt for the day as I had nothing green. Only my third clothing purchase since I’ve been here, and one of the softest fabrics I’ve ever felt in a low cost T.
  • Blue Stallion Brewing – not quite the strength of West Sixth Street, but lots of fun.
  • Molley Brooke’s Irish bar – as you can imagine, full of Irish lads and lasses, home of quite a few Irish car bombs, and a significant increase in general slurring
  • Country Boy Brewing – close to West Sixth St. Much smaller operation, but a smorgasbord of beers (8-10 of their own and at least a dozen others), and real depth across the board. Even with tasting pours (4 oz/120 ml), it takes a little time to get through this list, which we tried but ultimately failed.

A la Vegas, there are no photos of this debaucherous day and night, as losing my phone/ipad somewhere would be more disastrous here than at home, so I played a cautious hand and left everything with Charlotte.

When I got back to her, she did look a little disapprovingly at me, and I suspect she might have been a little jealous, but after all a man is not a camel. I’m sure she understands.

So I leave Lexington, and generally Kentucky with a gladdened heart. My association with this state no longer revolves around fried chicken.

Hi there. Feel free to make a comment if you want. I'll be reading each and every one and getting back to you as soon as I can
